Needle work

Needle work

Members of the Needlework Club learn the essential life skill of sewing. They learn basic stitches, such as the running, back and loop stitches, and to sew buttons, which will provide them the basic knowledge that they can apply in everyday life when things need to be mended. Members thus learn to be independent. Through hand-sewing, they work on and create some beautiful projects and in the process learn the values of patience and resilience.

Completion of a project might take weeks of hard work but is worthwhile when they admire their finished products, giving members a sense of achievement. Members also work in groups and pairs to build teamwork and leadership skills. Some of the products that members create have also been sold to raise funds for charity and thus they learn to empathise for the less fortunate in society and contribute in their little way towards this cause.
